| Emily C. Specchio was a 2006 Virginia Tech Marketing Graduate in the Pamplin College of Business, incoming graduate student in Marketing, and a brother of the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. Emily loved Virginia Tech and was passionate about the virtues of Scholarship, Leadership and Fellowship. Through her commitment to community service and academic achievement, Emily embodied the spirit of both her fraternity and her alma mater.
The Emily C. Specchio Foundation is a not-for profit organization founded to celebrate the life of Emily by following her inspirational lead in continuing to support charitable organizations close to her heart. An endowed scholarship at Virginia Tech has been created in her name to give annual scholarships to students with similar interests and passions. Through the Emily C. Specchio Memorial Scholarship, the foundation is committed to: 1) Recognizing and rewarding outstanding Virginia Tech student(s) annually who embody Emily's passions of scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and community service. 2) Smaller scholarships for Emily have also been established at Montclair State University and The College of Saint Elizabeth to recognize and reward outstanding students at these institutions. Through fundraisers including our annual “A Night with an Angel” benefit, the foundation is committed to supporting the following charities in which Emily volunteered and supported: 1) Foundation for Peace - dedicated to working hand-in-hand with people in need to enable their personal growth and achievement. Provides access to education, health care, clean water and economic opportunity to decrease conflict and injustice in the Dominican Republic and other impoverished nations. 2) Relay for Life - the American Cancer Society's signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer by raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment. 3) Teach for America - dedicated to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders to commit two years to teach in low-income communities and become lifelong leaders in pursuit of educational excellence and equity. | ||
