Mission Statement:

  The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
HRC seeks to improve the lives of GLBT Americans by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under the law and increasing public support among all Americans through innovative advocacy, education and outreach programs. HRC works to secure equal rights for GLBT individuals and families at the federal and state levels by lobbying elected officials, mobilizing grassroots supporters, educating Americans, investing strategically to elect fair-minded officials and partnering with other GLBT organizations.
 

Methods:

  Through innovative programs like HRC WorkNet, HRC FamilyNet and the National Coming Out Project, the HRC Foundation works to lay the groundwork for equality by educating the public, policy makers, the media, corporate leaders and others about issues surrounding anti-GLBT bias, discrimination, violence and other topics.

HRC WorkNet is a national source of information on workplace policies and laws surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity. It is home to the nation's most comprehensive, accurate and regularly updated database of corporate policies and workplace laws.

HRC FamilyNet provides information and resources for every aspect of GLBT family life including adoption, civil unions, marriage, custody and visitation and family law to name a few of the topic covered.

The National Coming Out Project promotes honesty and openness about being GLBT on campus, in the workplace and in the community through an educational outreach program and dissemination of timely resource materials on coming out issues.

The Million for Marriage campaign (www.millionformarriage.org) educates Americans on the rights, responsibilities, and privileges that come with marriage for gay and lesbian couples and counters efforts to deny marriage rights to same-sex couples, including any Constitutional amendment.

The Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Pilot Project educates and organizes faculty, students and staff at select HBCU campuses on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) issues specific to each institutions' needs. With this Project, the HRC Foundation opens campus-wide debate on GLBT issues at HBCU institutions, often for the first time. The project trains students to sustain the dialogue and build viable, student-led GLBT or GLBT-friendly organizations.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is an entirely non-political, educational organization working toward equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. The HRC Foundation was established in 1986 as a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit, classified as a tax-exempt, Section 501 (c)(3) organization by the IRS. It is an affiliated foundation of the Human Rights Campaign, which was founded in 1980. The HRC Foundation conducts research and provides education and outreach to help overcome the discrimination and bias that GLBT Americans face today.
