Please use 1 inch margins on all sides and 12 pt type in Times New Roman or a similar font. Letters longer than two pages will not be accepted.

On page 1, please include:

  1. Date of letter
  2. Organization’s name and contact information (full address, including mailing address if different, telephone, and website)
  3. Organization’s federal tax-exempt number and year of incorporation
  4. Contact person’s name, title, and contact information (telephone and e-mail)
  5. Organization’s current annual total budget and fiscal year
  6. Mission statement
  7. Category or categories to which your work is relevant: Children, Youth, and Families; Community Development; Education; the Environment; Health; or Social Justice.
  8. The geographic area that benefits from your organization (state, national, international)

In the remaining space, please respond to the following questions:

  1. What is the issue, problem, or opportunity your organization seeks to address?
  2. Which constituency does your organization serve? Specifically, in what ways does your organization work on behalf of low-income people or groups of individuals whose rights are infringed upon?
  3. What are your long term desired outcomes?
  4. What activities and/or services does your organization conduct to deliver these outcomes?
  5. What is your organization’s theory of change? How does your organization believe the activities or services it operates will contribute to systemic social change?
  6. How is the work of your organization innovative relative to other organizations in your sector or other nonprofits more broadly? What new strategies or solutions is your organization bringing to bear on your particular social issue?
  7. Please list any recent accomplishments of note.

Letters of Interest should be submitted by e-mail to All letters will be acknowledged via e-mail upon receipt. Those organizations under serious consideration will be notified by the following January 31, at which time additional information (such as budgets and demonstration of nonprofit status) will be requested.
