I Do Foundation Dress Consignment Requirements

  • Three Years Old or Less: We hear it all the time, "It's five years old, but it's still good!" Even so, if it's more than three years old, it will not be sold.
  • Clean It: Put it in the wash or have it dry cleaned, but please do not send us something that has not been cleaned. Silk gowns are particularly welcomed as donations, but require careful cleaning to preserve the fabric.
  • Stains: It might be hardly noticeable, but we really won't be able to sell a dress with stains. So if you can still see the faint hint of Merlot spilled by that enthusiastic guest, better to hold on to your dress.
  • Documentation: Look far and wide for the original receipt to send with the dress. If you simply cannot find it, then please include the date and an estimate for the original dress purchase price.

To maintain the quality of the fabric within the dress, please consider taking it to a drycleaner who specializes in wedding gowns.

Make Your Donation Now

Talk with one of our consultants: If your dress meets these requirements, call (202) 736-5747 to discuss your donation and the next steps. After our discussion we will email you the donation form, address, and final instructions to donate your gown.

The I Do Foundation will send you an acknowledgement of your charitable donation once it has received your dress and confirmed that it meets the above requirements.

The I Do Foundation sells donated dresses through a consignment partner that prices the dresses at the highest saleable rate possible. Generally, most dresses sell for approximately half of their original price.

While it is up to the donor to determine the exact value of the in-kind donation, the I Do Foundation suggests that donors use a general estimate of 50% of the original sales price to determine the value of their gift.
