In Their Own Words:

Children International (CI), a nonprofit, humanitarian organization, was founded in 1936 and is based in Kansas City, Missouri. The goal of CI is to help children around the world overcome the burdens of poverty to become healthy, educated, self-sustaining and contributing members of society.

This goal is achieved through our core health and education programs for children, as well as through community-focused efforts in the areas of housing, microenterprise, HIV/AIDS, and youth. In all areas, Children International programs place a high priority on beneficiary participation. Our volunteer structure enlists the support of parents and young people in the community. Currently, over 12,000 volunteers work together with local staff to help carry out day-to-day program operations.

Children International takes very seriously its responsibility to those who place their trust in the organization—both donor and child. This commitment to accountability and efficiency is reflected in our program development approach that is based on work plans and budgets and combined with a system for monitoring progress through financial and program reports. This system is evaluated by regular financial audits conducted by independent, certified public accountants in-country as well as auditors from the United States. CI follows accounting procedures established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

Children International's global programs benefit more than 265,000 children in 12 countries in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
